Tutoring
We have over thirty years of experience in
teaching, home education, tutoring & testing. Our campus students receive
one-on-one tutoring in the subjects in which they are needing help or having
difficulty. Normally, this is in math, pre-algebra, Algebra I & II, English
grammar, composition, and research paper writing. We specialize in English,
spelling, creative writing, and handwriting in elementary grades. For high
school students, we offer English grammar, composition, research paper writing,
pre-algebra, Algebra I, and Algebra II tutorials. Limited time slots are
available. Rates: $15 for 1-hour lessons. If we cannot provide the help
that you need, there are many other tutoring services in the surrounding area.
Please call the school office for more information.
Grade
Report Cards
CIAS tutors and teachers will be responsible for
keeping records of students’ grades and test scores completed in academic
subjects. See below policy for elective reports. Computerized report cards are
sent out each quarter after reports are turned in or are completed at school. If
you need a report card for a specific purpose, please request them from the
school office two weeks in advance.
Quarterly
Elective Record
Parents are responsible for recording and
reporting all hours spent in Performing Fine Arts (PFA), Physical Fitness (PE),
Work Experience/On-the-Job-Training OJT) and Community Service. They should be
recorded on the appropriate Quarterly Record forms and turned in every quarter,
once every nine weeks, twice a semester.
Semester
Elective Report
Music, Art, Drama, and Physical
Education instructor evaluations should be turned in once a semester. You must
have your instructor/teacher complete and sign the form. This covers private
music lessons, drama, theatre, band, fine arts classes, taekwando, kung fu,
karate, organized sports, YMCA sports, and any other PE classes.
Diagnostic
Testing
These tests cover mathematics,
English grammar, and reading comprehension in science and social studies. These
tests indicate learning gaps or academic strengths in a student’s learning.
After the evaluation is complete, we will suggest what curriculum would be best
for the student or if specialized tutoring is needed. We require all campus
students to receive diagnostic testing upon entrance. Fee: $10 per test per
subject.
Achievement
Testing
We offer ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) and the high school TAP (Tests
of Achievement and Proficiency) testing for the following students:
1.All
students entering CIAS who have not had a Stanford Achievement Tests or an ITBS
during the previous school year.
2.Any
currently enrolled students
3.Other
home schooled students.
See the Activity Schedule (inside back cover) for the yearly testing dates. During theschool year and summer, private academic or cognitive abilities testing can be arranged.
PSAT
On Saturday, October 18, 2003,
we administered the PSAT to all juniors and sophomores. Freshmen are
welcome to take the PSAT as well. The results come back to us early in December,
so we will make review conferences after te first of the year.
Campus
Student Conduct Code
Enrollment in the CIAS campus
school is probationary and dependent upon whether students fit into the learning
environment smoothly. The behavior code for CIAS campus students is to exemplify
the nature of Jesus Christ in all they say and do. See I Corinthians 8-10,
Romans 14, and Leviticus 19:28.
|
We
make no apologies for living zealous and fervent lives before our God. He says
that we are to be in the world but not of it. That is, even though we live in
this world, we are not to be partakers of its sinful seduction by having a
worldly mindset, evident in beliefs, appearance and conversation, and through
participation in carnal music and entertainment. James 4:4 says,
"Friendship with the world is enmity against God." Both Luke 9:25 and
Matthew 16:26 say, "What does it profit a man if he gain the whole world
and lose his own soul?"
Make
Up & Grooming
ALL CIAS students should refrain
from drawing attention to themselves and being a distraction to other students.
With this in mind, we set forth the following guidelines:
BOYS
|
GIRLS
|
Dress
Code
All CIAS students should dress to please
the Lord and not their peers.
GIRLS will wear modest shirts, skirts, dresses, and jumpers. Skirts will be mid-calf to ankle length. NO SHORT SKIRTS! No pants are to be worn under skirts except in cold weather; then they MUST be of a matching color. They are to wear slips with all skirts that are not denim or heavy sportswear. If you wear a shirt that will break dress code, wear another shirt over it. If you break dress code, clothing will be given to you to wear while you are at school. Hats and caps are allowed.
|
BOYS will wear t-shirts with appropriate writing, jeans, and sportswear. They are to wear belts to keep their pants up so that their underwear does not show.

Demerits
& Work Detention
A work detention system is being
implemented to follow up on the demerits that are issued by school authorities.
The demerits are issued for the following:
2 demerits
for being late to school
2 demerits for not bringing Bible to school
3 demerits for talking during school hours
3 demerits for breaking dress code
5 demerits for disrespect to teachers
5 demerits for disobedience
5 demerits for grumbling and complaining
5 demerits for being rude or mean to other students
5 demerits for not completing schoolwork assignments
5 demerits for rough-housing or fighting
For every 15 demerits earned, the student will be required to stay after school that day for work detention during which the following activities may take place:
Gather
and take all the trash out to the dumpster, replace bags
Vacuum the carpets
Clean the bathrooms
Wash dishes, clean the kitchen
Wash the windows, inside or out
Clean the blinds or dust library
Any other responsibilities the
administration deems suitable
Important
Policy Notice
CIAS retains all rights to waive or
change a policy during the school year. If the school does in fact alter a
policy, a copy of the new policy will be sent to all enrolled families.
Excused
Absence from Attendance
Please notify the school in advance
(on the previous day) if you are going to be absent from school. Excused
absences include personal or family sickness, doctor, dentist, or orthodontist
appointments, family emergencies, or family vacations. Regardless of these
excused absences, all normal tuition fees are still due. The only school days
exempt from tuition fees during the two-semester school year are Thanksgiving
break (one week), Christmas break (two weeks in December, one in January) and
the week of spring break. All other absences will be considered unexcused. Only
five absences are allowed during a semester, except under special circumstances
(i.e. prolonged illness, etc).
Parent/Teacher
Conference
The teachers and tutors make
every effort to inform parents of their child’s academic progress and/or
difficulties. If at any time the administration deems it necessary to arrange a
Parent/Teacher Conference during the school year, we ask that both parents be in
attendance. If at any time during the school year, a parent would like to meet
with us for a review meeting, please arrange an appointment.
Notice
of Nondiscriminatory Policy
The
Christian Institute of Arts & Sciences admits student of any race, color,
national and ethnic origin. All students are entitled to the rights, privileges,
programs, and activities generally made available by the school administration.
We believe that all men are made in God's image and hold that discrimination is
in violation of the Word of God (Galatians 3:28-29).
Withdrawing/Transferring
Should you withdraw your child
from CIAS for any reason and/or cease as a parent/teacher from the school,
immediately inform the school office of your intent. All outstanding tuition
fees for the year must be paid and all required report forms must be delivered
to the school office before cumulative files or transcripts will be released. We
must receive TWO WEEKS prior notice before release of file.
Refund
Policy
CIAS does not refund any
consultation fees, registration or enrollment fees, quarterly or full tuition
payments, or testing fees. There is a 15% restocking fee on all returned UNUSED
School of Tomorrow curriculum.
