Broken and beautiful? Seems like those two words shouldn’t even be in the same sentence. But wait! Imagine a stunning stained-glass window or a magnificent mosaic. These creations are formed from shattered pieces of glass or stone—some quite commonplace. And yet, when the little chips and shards are put together by a master, they can form a breathtaking piece of art. So it is with our lives. Often, we mistakenly think that we must have everything “together” before we come to God or minister to others. Yet Jesus delights to work in and through the humble of heart. Our Savior reaches down and picks up the pieces—the suffering and hurt and tears—and fashions them into something more wonderful than we could possibly imagine. And when the light of His love shines through us to a dark and hurting world, it is truly beautiful. Each year, HopeChest sponsors a competition to inspire and honor excellence in writing. If you have a passion for writing and a message relevant to Christian women, we welcome your entry in one or both divisions.

We seek personal experiences that have made a deep impact , true accounts of those you know, or articles weaving together insights and incidents from your journey as a follower of Christ. Of particular interest are articles with a fresh approach, an attention-keeping style, real-life examples, well-organized thoughts, and a well-integrated message.  800 word minimum.

We are looking for stories that touch the heart while illustrating God’s truth in vivid and memorable ways. Special notice will be given to compelling characters with depth and substance, a creative storyline, and a thought-provoking theme that flows naturally out of the characters and circumstances. 2,000 word minimum.
