Currently nine girls are enrolled, with a growing waiting list for the new term, starting June of 2002.
This is a three credit Life Management/Family Science course upon completion of all units.
Our study units are based upon Alpha Omega Publications Home Economics course, with activities, field trips, workshops, projects, research, and reports added in to embellish our learning. We cover skills needed for you as a young woman to mature into the godly 21st century woman God intends for you to be. This course will help you to learn necessary skills for life, to be subjected to new ideas, and to receive practical experience in many areas of accomplishment.
Our units are as follows:
Unit 1 Fundamentals of Food Preparation
In this unit we cover quick breads, yeast breads & bread baking, pies, deserts, organic gardening (with field trips & garden tours), food preservation: freezing & canning, food management & buying, and basic cake decorating.
Unit 2 Personal, Social & Behavioral Beauty
We study spiritual gifts, personalities, basic life principles, social behaviors,
communication, health & hygiene, skin care, grooming & posture, and a field trip
Unit 3 Interior Design
We study the history of interior design and various designers, as well as do practical decorating projects, floor plan design, and go on several field trips.
Unit 4 Hospitality & Home Management
We study personal & social etiquette, formal dining & presentation,
entertainment & hospitality, home management, and practical
automobile & home repair skills.
Unit 5 Personal Finance
We study finances, managing your money, staying out of debt, understanding legal forms & contracts, the significance of covenants, writing a resume, planning a budget, and setting up & maintaining a bank account.
Unit 6 Child Development
We study basic child development (physical, emotional, spiritual, & psychological), care of children, safety & first aid, baby-sitting 101, and storytelling.
Unit 7 Family & Social Dynamics
We study relationships at home: parents, siblings, birth order, choosing a mate, dating vs. courtship, and aging. We also cover women's issues and social relationships at school, work, and church.
Unit 8 Nutrition & Dietary Wellness
We use a Nutrition Science course as the basis for this unit. We also utilize the teachings of one the country's finest nutritionists & cooks, Sue Gregg, learning from her wonderful wisdom and invaluable instruction.
Unit 9 Principles of Clothing Preparation
We study what the Bible says about clothing; we cover fashion design & appearance, textiles & fabrics, care of clothing, ironing, sewing machine & sewing equipment, patterns, lay out/cut out basics, basic sewing, and two sewing projects. We also tour a fabric store and receive a sewing machine demonstration at a local sewing shop.
