BIBLE
CREDITS
High
school students enrolled in CIAS are required to have one Bible credit for each
year of high school that they are enrolled in CIAS before graduation, two
required being New Testament Survey and Old Testament Survey. These could
include organized Bible courses as well as Bible studies at church where
homework is completed. See the complete Bible course listing on page 27 of
your Student Handbook for more details. Bible courses
are subject to evaluation and approval by school administration. Seniors
transferring into CIAS are required to complete at least one Bible credit, being
New Testament Survey.
DRIVER EDUCATION
The best way to receive high
school credit for Driver Education is to enroll in a local public high school
for their summer course. We have signed permission forms available if
needed. Completion of the Drug & Substance Abuse Course is required.
WORLD CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY
The school district of Escambia County requires one-half credit of world
geography. We suggest that our high school students take a world geography
course as well. The best two curriculums are A Beka's half
credit course and Alpha Omega's half-credit course. School on tomorrow has
a one-credit course as well.
ON-THE-JOB-TRAINING/WORK EXPERIENCE
OJT Forms are for employers to document Work Experience. One credit
will be awarded for every 150 hours of work experience completed. Only two
work experience credits will apply towards vocational elective requirements.
HIGH SCHOOL FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSES
In order to receive two language credits and/or achieve the college
preparatory diploma, students should complete one of the following methods:
1. Complete two sequential years of high school coursework in
the same foreign language or its equivalent at the college
level, eight college credits.
2. Complete at least 8 semester credits of the same foreign
language by dual enrollment courses at PJC.
3. Complete one year of foreign language high school
coursework and 4 semester credits of the same foreign
language by dual enrollment courses at PJC. ***Pensacola Junior College
uses a first year textbook for both semesters of their
beginning language I and II courses. Therefore, we prefer that students take a
home study course before completion of the two semesters.***
4. Complete the intermediate level courses of dual enrollment
and the second year of a high school level course in the same
foreign language.
For Florida Bright Futures scholarships, we hold to their requirements.
From Walter McCarroll, Deputy Commissioner, Florida Department of Education
"The FASC program described in § 232.2465, Florida Statutes,
specifically requires that a student take 'two years of sequential foreign
language'. The plain meaning of these words are that the student is to
study two years of foreign language while in high school. The submission
of two semesters' college credit cannot meet FASP requirements for foreign
language."
For home study, Power Glide foreign language courses constitute two credits.
A Beka and Bob Jones offer second year courses as well. Power Glide now
has a foreign language school for dual enrollment. Look for more
information on page 29 of your Student Handbook.
